Nestled at the foot of Ben Cruachan (1197m) between Loch Etive and Loch Awe, Taynuilt (population 900) is 12 miles east of Oban. The name Taynuilt comes from the Gaelic ‘Tigh-an-Uilt’, meaning ‘house of the stream’ and was a staging post and resting place for travellers before the railway arrived in 1879.

Ben Cruachan is one of the finest Munros in the southern Highlands, its pointed peak towering above its rocky satellites giving great views. The ridge walk to Stob Daimh makes a great circuit around the Cruachan reservoir.
Parking by the Falls of Cruachan railway station (6 cars) or in layby approx. 700m before on left side.
